Do the kids enjoy playing with puppets?
Materials Needed:
- 1 sheet of black foam sheet (for the owl’s body)
- 1 sheet of yellow foam sheet (for the beak and feet)
- 1 sheet of white foam sheet (for the owl’s eyes)
- 2 wiggly eyes (the bigger, the better!)
- 1 wooden stick (like a craft stick or chopstick)
- Glue (foam glue or hot glue gun)
- Scissors
- Pencil or marker (for tracing)
- Optional: Small pieces of orange foam (for the owl’s beak and feet details)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Owl’s Body:
- Take the black foam sheet and use your pencil to draw an oval shape for the owl’s body.
- Cut out the oval shape. This will be the main part of your owl puppet.
2. Create the Owl’s Wings:
- On the black foam, draw two smaller oval shapes for the owl’s wings. These should be slightly smaller than the body.
- Cut them out.
- Attach the wings to the sides of the body with glue, slightly overlapping the edges for a more realistic look.
3. Cut the Eyes:
- From the white foam sheet, cut out two large circles for the owl’s eyes.
- For each eye, cut a smaller circle from the black foam to create the pupils.
- Glue the black circles in the center of the white circles.
- Once your eyes are glued together, attach the wiggly eyes to the center of each foam eye.
4. Make the Beak and Feet:
- Cut out a small triangle from the yellow foam sheet for the beak.
- Cut out two small oval shapes from the yellow foam for the owl’s feet. Optionally, you can add little “claws” at the bottom of the feet for a fun effect.
- Attach the beak to the center of the owl’s face, just below the eyes.
- Attach the feet to the bottom of the owl’s body.
5. Attach the Puppet to a Stick:
- Once the owl body and its parts are assembled and the glue is dry, it’s time to attach the puppet to the stick.
- Take the wooden stick (like a craft stick or chopstick) and apply a good amount of glue to the back of the owl’s body.
- Stick the wooden stick in place at the bottom of the owl’s body, allowing the glue to set and hold the puppet securely.
