Halloween is coming!! This is one of my crafts to do with kids, a haunted house made using a cereal box.

Materials needed:

  • An empty cereal box
  • Scissors or a utility knife
  • Vinyl glue or hot glue
  • Black acrylic paint and a brush
  • Orange tissue paper
  • Pencil
  • Ruler (optional, for precision)
  • LED lights (optional, for a glowing effect)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cardboard Open the cereal box and lay it flat to create a working surface. Use a pencil to draw the shape of your haunted house. Add spooky details like a pointed roof, uneven windows, and a crooked door. You can also create a tilted chimney or uneven height for a creepier effect.
  2. Cut out the house Use scissors or a utility knife to cut out the shape of the house and openings for windows and the door. For a more realistic look, create windows of different sizes and shapes (circles, ovals, irregular squares).
  3. Paint Paint the entire surface of the cardboard with black acrylic paint, both front and back. Let it dry completely. If needed, apply a second coat for a richer color.
  4. Create glowing windows Cut pieces of orange tissue paper slightly larger than the windows. Use vinyl glue to stick the tissue paper on the back of the windows, ensuring they cover the openings entirely. This will create the effect of glowing windows.
  5. Assemble the house Fold the cardboard back into the shape of a box, gluing the tabs with hot glue or vinyl glue. Ensure the structure is sturdy. You can reinforce the interior with extra pieces of cardboard if needed.
  6. Add extra details (optional) To make your haunted house even spookier, you can:
    • Add shapes of bats, ghosts, or cobwebs using black cardstock.
    • Draw cracks or bricks on the walls with a white or silver marker.
    • Place LED lights inside to make the windows glow.
