Halloween is approaching, and here is another quick craft to do with the kids: an owl made with a pinecone and foam sheets. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a cute owl using a pinecone, foam sheets, and other craft materials. A perfect Halloween activity to do with kids!
Materials Needed:
- 1 pinecone
- Orange foam sheet (for the wings)
- Yellow foam sheet (for the beak)
- Wiggly eyes (eyes with a yellow background)
- Brown foam sheet (for the feet)
- Scissors
- Hot glue
Steps:
1. Prepare the Pinecone:
Start by cleaning the pinecone if necessary. This will be the base of your owl. Position it so that the wider part of the pinecone is facing down and the narrower part is at the top, as if it were the owl’s body.
2. Create the Owl’s Wings:
Using the orange foam sheet, cut out two oval or leaf-shaped pieces to create the wings. The wings should be large enough to cover the sides of the pinecone. Once cut out, glue the wings to the sides of the pinecone, making sure they are slightly tilted outward, as if the owl is spreading its wings.
3. Create the Owl’s Beak:
From the yellow foam sheet, cut a small triangle to create the owl’s beak. The beak should be small in proportion to the pinecone. Glue the beak just below the top of the pinecone, in the center, between the wings.
4. Add the Owl’s Eyes:
Take the wiggly eyes with a yellow background and glue them above the beak, on both sides of the pinecone. The eyes should be placed symmetrically to give the owl a cute and curious look.
5. Create the Owl’s Feet:
Now, take the brown foam sheet and cut out two small rectangular or “V” shaped pieces for the feet. Glue the feet to the base of the pinecone, making them appear to come out from the bottom. You can add details to the feet, such as small lines to simulate toes, making them even more realistic.
6. Finishing Touches:
Take a final look at your owl. If you’d like, you can add extra details such as small feathers or additional decorations to give more personality to your craft. You can also add small twigs or ribbons to embellish the owl.
