The jester costume is one of the most colorful outfits for Carnival. A cheerful and lively character, it perfectly suits children who love music, poetry, and acting. In the past, it was the profession of those who lived for art. Jesters entertained people during festive days, and thanks to their skill with words, they even helped spread popular culture. Today, here at Pane, amore e creatività, with the guidance of Valentina, we’ll create an accessory for this costume: the jester hat.
The Jester Hat
A fun hat that even our children can make themselves, to complete a Carnival costume, perform in a play with friends, or just enjoy dressing up.
What you’ll need:
- Colored cardstock
- Scissors
- Bells
- Adhesive tape
- Ruler
- Pencil
How to make it: To create our jester hat, start by taking the colored cardstock. On the orange cardstock, draw two rectangles using a pencil and ruler. Each rectangle should be as long as the sheet and 7 cm high. Cut them out and join them together with adhesive tape to create one long strip.
From the other cardstock, cut out two triangles for each color. Each triangle should be as tall as the sheet and about 6–7 cm wide.
Place the triangles on the back of the orange strip, alternating colors, and secure them with adhesive tape.
Use scissors to curl the tips of the triangles, as you would when curling ribbon for gift wrapping. The paper will take on a rounded shape.
Choose three points and attach bells to them using adhesive tape.
Wrap the hat around the head of the person who will wear it, and secure the orange strip with adhesive tape. Now the hat is ready to wear!
